Dietmar Ulrich is Professor and Chair of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery and Director of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at the Medical University of Innsbruck, Austria, since November 2025. He also serves as Director of Postgraduate Education and Head of the Plastic Surgery Residency Program. Prior to this appointment, he was Chair of the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Radboud University Medical Center (Radboudumc), Nijmegen, the Netherlands, for nearly 14 years, where he developed internationally recognized programs in reconstructive breast surgery, microsurgery, and surgical innovation.

Earlier in his career, Professor Ulrich held academic positions at Erasmus MC Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and RWTH Aachen University, Germany. He completed a EURAPS–AAPS Fellowship in reconstructive surgery at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, USA, and in aesthetic surgery at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, New York, USA.

His clinical expertise focuses on reconstructive microsurgery, with a particular emphasis on advanced breast reconstruction, complex oncologic reconstruction, and lymphedema surgery. His research focuses on innovation in reconstructive surgery, including 3D imaging, augmented reality, computer-assisted surgical planning, outcome research, and extracorporeal machine perfusion technologies to advance tissue preservation and future reconstructive concepts.

Professor Ulrich has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and more than 30 book chapters, supervised more than 20 PhD candidates, and received numerous national and international awards. Since June 2026, he has served as President of the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS). He is internationally recognized as an expert in reconstructive breast surgery, microsurgery, and innovative surgical concepts and is a frequent invited speaker at international scientific meetings.
