Prof. Rene D. Largo, MD, MBA, FACS, is a Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, USA. He earned his medical degree from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, after studying Mechanical Engineering and Process Management at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich). He completed his residency training in Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic, and Hand Surgery at the University Hospital Basel, Switzerland, followed by a fellowship in Reconstructive Microsurgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

Prof. Largo specializes in microsurgical reconstruction of complex oncologic defects, with particular expertise in head and neck and breast reconstruction. His clinical and research interests include functional tongue reconstruction, perforator flap surgery, vascularized bone reconstruction, robotic-assisted microsurgery, and patient-centered outcomes research.

He has authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters and has delivered over 150 invited lectures, keynote presentations, and visiting professorships across five continents. His work has contributed to advances in functional reconstruction following cancer ablation, including innovative applications of perforator flaps and microsurgical techniques in head and neck reconstruction.
