Prof. Dr. Dr. Elisabeth A. Kappos, FMH (Plast), Fellow of EBOPRAS is Associate Professor and Senior Consultant at the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive, Aesthetic and Hand surgery at the University Hospital Basel. She is also Head of Plastic Reconstructive Clinical Research at the Department of Clinical Research and Co-Director of the Medical Faculty of Basel Mentoring Program. Prof. Kappos obtained her medical degree with honours from the University of Zurich, Duke University Medical School and Mount Sinai Medical School in New York. Her plastic surgical training in Switzerland was followed by numerous, highly competitive, international fellowships in Toronto, San Francisco, Edinburgh and Brussels. As a reconstructive microsurgeon she specialises in reconstructive breast and lymphatic surgery. Her clinical research focuses on improving patient reported outcome in microsurgery, specifically in breast cancer patients, as well as supermicrosurgical lymphatic reconstruction and preoperative risk assessment in microsurgery. Prof Kappos is the leader of several international, multicenter trials, such as the LYMPH tria(www.lymphtrial.com)l. Her translational research is embedded in an highly interdisciplinary network focusing on novel breast cancer as well as melanoma treatment strategies. Prof Kappos is a member of renowned executive committees and scientific panels, including the Swiss Society of Senology, Swiss Plastic Surgery, the Swiss Academy of Cancer Research and many others.. She has received numerous national and international awards, including the Hans Anderl Award of the European Association of Plastic Surgeons. In her role as an academic plastic surgeon she is highly committed to the promotion of young academics .
