Dr. Mark Schaverien is an Associate Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. After receiving his medical degrees from the University of Edinburgh, Dr. Schaverien completed his Plastic Surgery training in the UK and undertook a clinical research fellowship in the Department of Plastic Surgery at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, following which he was awarded a Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He completed four clinical fellowships and was subsequently recruited as faculty at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Schaverien is an expert in complex reconstruction and microsurgery, in particular breast reconstruction and lymphedema surgery. He is an active researcher with interests in outcomes and translational research and is Director of Research of the Tissue Regeneration and Molecular Cell Engineering Labs (TRAMCEL) at MD Anderson. He has over 120 publications and 60 invited national and international presentations, as well as funded research in lymphedema surgery. Additionally, he is an Associate Member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a Member of American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery.
